Read All About It!

This Princess is a huge fan of the amazing Main Street Gazette blog. I have no doubt that you all read Ryan's Walt Disney World based blog, and if you do you may see a familiar Princess posting on the weekly roundtables...

That being said, when visiting Disneyland Paris it's important to keep up-to-date with the latest happenings over at the Gazette. And you can do just that over at the Information board in the Hub.

(in English:)
Today at DISNEYLAND

For your enjoyment in Disneyland Park today is a wide selection of extraordinary and wonderful delights. Feast your eyes on a veritable pageant of parades and theatrical entertainments. Enter worlds of history, discovery and ageless fantasy.

Focus on...Marceline, Missouri

The small mid-west town of Marceline, Missouri was where Walt Disney spent much of his childhood and it became the inspiration for Main Street U.S.A.. At the turn of the 20th century, gas lamps were quickly giving way to Edison's new electric lights, and horse-drawn streetcars to new fangled motor-cars. It was a time of invention, optimism and change.

Taken from Main Street Gazette, established 1867 "we print the news before it happens".

The Cops Are Coming

You better watch out the next time you visit Main Street U.S.A., Paris. It turns out that the police are happy to take you away at a moment's notice!

And judging by these convicts in the Main Street Police Dept. Paddy Wagon, they are getting younger and younger!

Oranges and Lemons

Well, the title is a little bit misleading, as we are only interested in oranges here at DF'82 today. Or - to be more accurate - where some of the best oranges come from. Just take a look at the Delicious Sweets confectionery and beverage spot on Main Street U.S.A., Disneyland Paris.

I quite fancy some fudge, or maybe a nice hot chocolate! But wait, let's have a closer look - it appears there may be a way to get to Florida and have some nice oranges and sun.

The Ocean Steamship Co.

Excellent - we must book a trip today! A nice nod to that 'other' Disney Park in Florida, I'm sure.

Time For A Rental

When visiting Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland Paris, you may be in need of a rental of sorts. Perhaps you would like a top of the range pushchair, or a beautiful pram?

Check out the Roll-a-Long Rentals, on the right hand side of Town Square. As Hertz is the proud sponsor, I'm sure you can get some fantastic models!

Founders and Partners

One of the most important windows on Main Street U.S.A. belongs to two very important people.

Two Brothers
Dreamers & Doers

If we can Dream it we can Do it!

Roy O.Disney
Walt Disney

Founders
and
Partners

Situated above Delicious Sweets, this window is, of course, dedicated to the men who helped make the Disney theme parks a reality - Walt Disney and his brother Roy, co-founders of what is now the Walt Disney Company.

If you follow DF'82, you will know that I have a very sweet tooth. And it looks like this could be a great place to buy something that fits that bill.

Candy Time

After the long hiatus here at DF'82, I think it's about time we indulged in a bit of a candy treat!

Over at the Candy Store on Main Street U.S.A., Disneyland, be sure to have a good look at some of the shelves. You might find some treats waiting for us!

Save some jelly beans for me!

The Newest Window on Main Street

We head over to Disneyland's Main Street U.S.A. for a fantastic window update! DF'82 are a huge fan of the windows of all the Disney Parks, and this one is no exception.

Just last week, Alice Davis, Disney Legend, received her very own window on Main Street U.S.A.. Right next to her husband's window.

Small World
Costume Co.

Alice Davis

Seamstress to the Stars

Alice is possibly best known for her costumes for it's a small world;

And perhaps the most loved costume of all Disney attractions (or perhaps I'm bias) - the Redhead costume from Pirates of the Caribbean.

A beautiful, and welcome, addition to Main Street U.S.A.!

It's been a while since we wandered down Main Street U.S.A. in Parc Disneyland, so let's revisit one of this Princess's favourite areas!

And I don't know about you, but I fancy some dancing.

Oh look, it's Xavier's Dance School!

The specialise in tap, dance and ballet. Fantastic! Time to get those ballet shoes on, readers.

Remedies All Round

Following on from yesterday's post, looking at the walls of the Deli, we can see some interesting adverts on one of the walls near Huntington's on Main Street U.S.A.

Not only can we find Shaker Apple Sauce, and some delicious Washington Crisps here, but we can also find some Humphrey's Remedies. Remedies for ailments such as whooping cough, coughs, la grippe and teething. It looks like Humphrey's Witch Hazel Ointment will help almost anyone!

Around the Walls

The Market House Deli, located on Main Street U.S.A. in Paris, is one of the most interesting counter service locations in Parc Disneyland. We're going to have a look at it in our 'Quick Bite' series in a few weeks, but for now, I thought it would be nice to continue our appreciate of the Parisian park by having a look at some of the sights of this Deli...

As we should all know by now, the walls can be some of the most interesting areas of the Disney Theme Parks! Take, for example, one of the walls in the Market House.

Full of period specific posters, adverts and goods, the decoration in this restaurant is next to none. I don't know about you, but that poster really makes me wish I had one of those Home Washing Machine and Wringer items!

And here, we can have a look at some of the goods the Deli can sell to guests.

What a relief! I was wondering where I could buy eggs!

At Law On The Street

It is about time we pop back over to Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland Paris, as I suddenly feel the need to visit a lawyer...

As we can see here, this is the best place to find some Attorney's At Law!

Attorneys At Law

Stephen JUGE
Andrew HIBBERT
Joe SHAPIRO

Patents
Wills
Claims

No Claim
No Settlement

Stephen Juge worked as Vice President and General Counsel of Disneyland Paris (then Euro Disney) from November 1987 until March 1996, then becoming the Senior Vice President of the Walt Disney Company (Europe). During his time at Disney he also served as European Legal Counsol and General Counsel, before leaving in 2000.

As the window suggest, Andrew Hibbert also worked in the legal profession with Euro Disney SCA from 1990 until 1995, as Vice-President, Legal Affairs, Deputy General Counsel.

Possibly the more well known of the names on this window, Joe Shapiro was the Euro Disney General Counsel and main negotiator for the (then Euro Disney) Disneyland Paris development plans negotiations. In December 1985, the negotiations were underway, spear-headed by Shapiro, after he joined the Company in 1984 as the Company's legal department head. Joe unfortunately died in 1999 of non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

This window is a great tribute to three men who helped shape the park we see today, albeit in a more legal sense!

Barbering In Paris

The Dapper Dan's Hair Cuts, barber shop, is located just off Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland Paris. We have briefly mentioned the barbers here at DF'82 before!

But today, we are going to have a look inside, and see if we can get an insight into the Dapper Dans themselves.

The barber shop is well-stocked and very neatly kept, making it one of the most hygienic places on Main Street U.S.A.! But do you notice something on the far wall?

Yes, it's a telephone - perhaps for making important calls? Let's see what it says in English:

Listen In
At the turn-of-the-century, when telephones were still new to the American way of life, it was not unusual for four or five households to share a common telephone line, or "party line". "Eavesdropping" - the act of listening to someone else's telephone conversation - soon became a favorite pastime.

Running on Gas

When you are using some of the new-fangled Motor Cars on Main Street U.S.A., you may need to fill up on some gasoline, or petrol if you are from the British side of the Atlantic.

So be ready to stop by the Auto Service, where you can fill up at a reasonable price!

Looking closely, we can see the brand of gasoline used by Main Street Motors:

White Rose
Motor Oils

Closed In Flight

Kitty Hawk Bicycle Shop in Disneyland Paris sells some of the most fantastic - and futuristic - looking bicycles in the country.

On our last visit to the Parc, I was looking forward to perhaps purchasing a bicycle or two. But unfortunately, it looks like the shop is closed for the time being!

Yes, the shop is closed for Flight Testing. I wonder if now Kitty Hawk is looking into acquiring a different form of transportation altogether!

Psychics on the Street

It's been a while since we looked at a window on Main Street U.S.A. over at Disneyland Paris, so today we are going to do just that!

Dick Nunis
Consultant At Large
World Famous Psychic

Predicts Your Future
Knows Your Past

Open House

Many a Disney Geek will know of and about Dick Nunis, who this window was dedicated for. Nunis started working for Disneyland in its opening year, 1955, and continued working for the Walt Disney Company until his retirement in 1999.

Amongst the many roles he played in the company, he was head of Park Operations for Disneyland, helped develop Walt Disney World and later became executive Vice President of both theme parks. For Disneyland Paris, or Euro Disney as it was, Dick was part of the consultation plans whilst being a member of the Walt Disney Productions Board of Directors.

You can read more about this Disney Legend here.
