Choo-Choo-ing Along

Upon entering the Disneyland Railroad in Disneyland, Anaheim, be sure to pay attention to the beautiful display case directly in front of you.

This shows a replica of the Lily Belle No. 2 engine. The following is from wikipedia:

The Lilly Belle is named after Walt Disney's wife Lillian Disney (born Lillian Marie Bounds) (1899–1997). "Lilly Belle" is also the name of the scaled-down steam locomotive Disney ran in his own backyard and the parlour car of the Disneyland Railroad. It should also be noted that Lilly Belle was built in 1928, which would make it as old as Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
  • Built: 1928
  • Wheel Configuration: 2-6-0 "Mogul"
  • Serial Number : 60598
  • Locomotive Color: Green cab with green boiler jacket
  • Coach Color: Green with green poles
  • Coach Number Series: 200
  • Driver Diameter: 44 inches (1,118 mm)
  • Locomotive and Tender Weight (dry): 61,000 pounds (27,669 kg)

All Aboard at Thunder Mesa

The Big Thunder Mountain attraction in Disneyland Paris is, perhaps, one of the best themed of all the Railroad attractions. Set in the town of Thunder Mesa, the entire attraction is a joy to experience.

Even just entering the queue for the Mountain is detailed enough for every Disney geek!

On The Sequoia Walls

The bedrooms in the main Sequoia Lodge building have been recently refurbished, as we looked at last week. And whilst the borders around the wall have been themed, the paintings hanging in the walls are also themed.

With gorgeous images featuring Bambi and friends, you can really feel at home in these Lodge rooms!

Fancy Fish

An area of Tokyo DisneySea that DF'82 has still to explore is the American Waterfront area. This area is like a Main Street U.S.A. window-display away from Main Street!

Here is just one of the fantastic adverts which decorate this area of Japan's beautiful park:

Need a Sign?

Disney's California Adventure has been through a lot of changes - but last year there was a fantastic hidden area, close to the stage for the Aladdin Musical.

As you can see, this area had a number of fun prop posters, ready for whatever production would be next in Hollywood Boulevard!

Enjoying A Moment...At Toad Hall

Is there anything better than visiting a Disney park, early in the morning, when it's nice and quiet and not everything has been opened yet?

Let's try it out at the Toad Hall Restaurant in Disneyland Paris...it's a nice, early, summer morning and all is calm and quiet before the crowds arrive!

Details Above Your Head

Disney's Sequoia Lodge, in Disneyland Paris, is a beautiful resort, and after having a large upgrade, is even more fun to stay in!

Take a look at the rooms, for example, in the main Lodge building. Notice anything special about them?

Take a look at the wallpaper decorating the room - now that is some Disney Detailing.

Windows Without Strings

When exiting les Voyages de Pinocchio, in Disneyland Paris, be sure to take a look at the doors which lead to la Bottega di Geppetto ('Geppetto's Workshop'). You may notice some beautiful stained glass workmanship, which I'm sure Geppetto approves of!

To All The Buccaaneers

This week at DF'82, we don't just get to look at one dedication plaque, but two! Heading over from Fantasyland in Disneyland, to New Orleans Square, we find this fantastic dedication fountain at Pirates of the Caribbean.

This fountain is situated near the start of the queue line, and can be visible from both the left and right queues. Let's take a slightly closer look at the words immortalised:

From Conception to Animation

In the Walt Disney Studios' Art of Animation area of the park, you can see some beautiful pieces of artwork, as well as create some of your own.

One of the largest displays in this attraction, however, is the interesting display dedicated to the conception of animation.

Be sure to have a closer look at this part, as you can see some conceptual drawings and artwork on Ursula...

and Tinkerbell!

Head To The Mill

Thunder Mesa, in Disneyland Paris, is a hard-working town, with the Railroad which can take several guests at once, or the many shops and restaurants selling provisions and goods.

There is also Huntington Mill, which keeps many residents of Thunder Mesa in full-time employment.

Children of the Small World

DF'82 loves plaques in the Disney theme parks - and the one at the Small World attraction, in Disneyland, is no exception.

Situtated in front of the attraction, between the exit and the entrance, the plaque reads the following:

"it's a small world"
First Voyage April 22, 1964
New York World's Fair

For 25  years, "the happiest cruise that ever sailed" has shown millions a world of peace, understanding and friendship. We re-dedicate "it's a small world" to the ideals of UNICEF, and re-affirm the commitment of The Walt Disney Company to all the world's children.

Beauty, Beauty Everywhere

When wandering through some of the shops near the main entrance to Tokyo DisneySea, we come across a familiar piece.

Can you believe it? Our famous Sleeping Beauty and Prince Phillip statue is also here in Tokyo DisneySea!

What a capture - but you have to search hard for it.

Ambassador For All

The third hotel situated at Tokyo Disney Resort is the Disney Ambassador Hotel.

A mostly Art-deco themed resort, this is a more practical hotel for guests of Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea to stay in.

And as you can see, when this Princess was visiting, they were celebrating their 10th anniversary!

Perhaps we can pop into Chef Mickeys' for a bite?

Backside of Costa

After last week's tour of Hotel Mira Costa in Tokyo DisneySea, we now take this opportunity to see...the backside of Mira Costa!

As you can see, the theming of the hotel blends in perfectly with Tokyo DisneySea's theming.

And if you're lucky, you may spot something special.

In this shot, you can see a couple who have just got married at the Hotel Mira Costa. Once they are wed, bells ring out, and the step out to be congratulated by the guests of Tokyo DisneySea!

Now that's a magical wedding!

Looking Up At Mira - Part 2

Following on from yesterday's Always Look Up at Disney's Mira Costa hotel in Tokyo Disney Resort, we take some time to have a look at even more beautiful paintings on the impressive lobby ceiling!

This piece shows the Arabian Coast area of Tokyo DisneySea.

And the Port Discovery land of the 'Sea.

Now we look at Lost River Delta.

And we finish by looking at the art representing Mermaid Lagoon.

Fantastic!
