Fun Disneyland Facts!

It's the middle of the week, so let's take some time to again look at one of my favourite Disneyland books, Little Known Facts About Well-Known Places.

As we all know, Disneyland is the original Disney Theme Park, and after less than eight weeks of operation, it had its one-millionth guest! Not too bad for a theme park in Anaheim.

As per page 185/6:
The original site Walt had his eye on was the six-acre tract across from his studios in Burbank, California (currently the location of the hat-shaped Walt Disney Feature Animation Building), but as his team came up with more and more ideas, his Mickey Mouse Park evolved into Disneylandia (ultimately, just Disneyland), and the location shifted south to an orange grove in Anaheim, California.

Anaheim, which in the early 1950s was predicted to become the population center of Southern California, was selected from among more than seventy proposed sites for Disneyland. Beach towns were the most suggested, but Walt believed it would be impossible for his park to compete against the ocean.

33 Facts

Although the title suggests different, I thought it would be fun to revisit one of my most enjoyable books, Little Known Facts About Well-Known Places: Disneyland. And from this book, we can experience a couple of facts about the mysterious Club 33 in Disneyland (p167-171).

Did you know...

• There is a nine-year waiting list for Club 33, which can sometimes be as long as 14 years! It has a maximum of 1000 people on it - and it is also at capacity!
• Membership for Club 33 has about 487 corporations and individuals - this capacity is actually due to capacity in the restaurant, and not exclusivity.
• There has been a rumour that the name Club 33 was due to the address, which was required in order for Disneyland to obtain an alcohol license for the restaurant. But this theory is unlikely, due to the fact that addresses, nor streets, inside Disneyland are recognised by the US Postal Service.

Remember...Fireworks!

I love the entertainment and show behind all the Disney Theme Parks, as well as the fantastic attractions and theming. One of my favourite pieces of entertainment when I visit the parks is the fireworks shows at the end of a long, but fun, day.

When the Royal Family has visited Disneyland in previous years, the firework show was Remember...Dreams Come True and it was a beautiful, heartwarming display. It was originally created for the park's 50th Anniversary and at the time was the most fantastical display ever put on at Disneyland.
The entire display was so top secret that the trial runs for the show took place in China's Gobi Desert! The introduction, and conclusion, is narrated by the Disney Legend Julie Andrews, and features music from all the different lands around the Park. It lasts just over 17 minutes and is estimated to cost $33,000 per showing.

Random Tuesday

As I've mentioned before, there are some changes happening at DF'82 - some trips planned and some exciting things I have all set to show you in the coming months. So, I thought today we could be random!
