Light Up

A quick return to Colonel Hathi's Pizza Outpot reminds us to always look up, as some things may light the way for us in a Disney park...

That's right, we are pointing out the Disney details in the light fixtures around the Outpost.

There really is a great attention to detail by Colonel Hathi and his Imagineering friends!

Keeping With The Theme

To keep in with the Alice in Wonderland theming, today's blog post will take a close look at something situated in Fantasyland, in Parc Disneyland. Something close to Alice's Curious Labyrinth. And something that is part of the DF'82 Lighting Up series.

These beautiful lights are scattered amongst the edging of the labyrinth before you enter the maze. They are, what you could call, a-maze-ing! (Yes, I know, don't give up the day job!) And yet another example of how Imagineers are constantly keeping with the theming of the parks. Wonderful!

The Grandest of the Californian

In an attempt to introduce you, the readers of DF'82, to the wonders of the Disney Parks all around the world, today we head over to the Disneyland Resort in California. Specifically, the Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in the Resort.

Situated next to Disney's Californian Adventure, with access from Downtown Disney, it is arguably the most immersive of all the Disneyland resorts.

And you know how much the Royal Family enjoy the Disney Details of the Disney parks, and the resorts are no exception. One of the best details can be found around the outside of the Grand Californian resort.

Just have a look at these lights situated near the entrance and decorating the resort itself. Fantastic imagineering! Lighting Up Around The Resorts

If you remember I previously took us on a tour of the different lamps and lights used throughout the Disney Parks in Disneyland Paris.

Well, the lights throughout the resort area are just as interesting. Although the light fixtures look quite regular, they hold a deeper secret.

Do you see it? The link to the past of Disneyland Paris - detailing Euro Disney and 1992, the year that the Resort was born. I am just glad that these little details are still around!

And There's More To Light Up!

After my series of Lighting Up Parc Disneyland, Paris, I couldn't completely neglect the Walt Disney Studios. So, to finish off our series, let's have a look at just some of the styles of lighting fixtures found in the Studios.

Lighting Up...Discoveryland

Possibly due to the fantastic innoventions of the future, Discoveryland doesn't have very many lights at all. And those that do exist appear to look like something out of a Jules Verne novel.

Lighting Up...Adventureland

As the land suggests, Adventureland is the place adventurers go to explore, excavate and trade. The lights in this land are very different - in a way that all adventurers are different and explore different cultures. From the lights of Agrabah to the lights of Indiana Jones - the differences are immense!

Lighting Up...Frontierland

Frontierland - home of the Old West and the Western lifestyle. So let's have a look at the lights that reflect the land of the Cowboys. And the most haunted, Phantom Manor you will ever see!

Lighting Up...Main Street U.S.A.

You think of Main Street U.S.A, and you think of Small Town America, the United States 'back in the day' - you think of Walt's hometown. And the Imagineers remembered this when they created Main Street U.S.A. in Disneyland Paris.

The lights here are a throw-back to the old days, when most lights were actually gas powered. In fact, in the Arcades (which we will discuss in detail in a future DF'82 post) still have these old-fashioned lights.

Lighting Up...Princess Style

Those Disney Princesses are really after a piece of my own heart - they know how to decorate their residences and attractions with style when it comes to the lights!

The House of the Seven Dwarfs, in partnership with Snow White, I'm sure, has this beautiful apple-based stained glass light.

Meanwhile, across the way at Cinderella's restaurant, she tries to go one better with this stylised light, blending with the royalty and art-noveau stylings of her carriage.

And who could forget Aurora, Sleeping Beauty, who has the beautiful Chateau at Disneyland Paris. She gets several lights placed around the Castle grounds, and they are all definitely fit for a Princess:

Lighting Up...Fantasyland

The majority of lighting fixtures throughout Fantasyland in Disneyland Paris shows the magical and whimsical nature of the land itself. A lot of stained glass and 'classic' designs are used, mixed with a slight 'over the top' and magical nature.
